The Centre for Competition Law and Policy (CCLP) was established in the year 2014 with the vision to promote interdisciplinary research concerning competition law and to advance the research and evaluation of policy related to regulatory laws in India. Further, it acts as an institute of excellence in research and teaching in the field of competition law and policy. The centre aims to foster the spirit of academic debates as well as to enable discussion on contemporary issues of competition law and policy. In order to realise this mission, it provides a platform for greater engagement amongst competition law enthusiasts. In 2016, the Centre became India’s first competition law research centre to partner the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) at its Research Partnership Platform (RPP).

The Centre also publishes Indian Competition Law Review (ICLR), a one of its kind Flagship Journal with a student-run editorial board, with a view to seek contribution from leading practitioners, scholars and students. It has been taken up with the objective of harnessing the culture of innovative academic research and writing and to contribute to the development of legal literature in the sphere of Competition Law.

The Centre primarily seeks to engage young legal minds and familiarise them with various facets of developments in competition law and sectoral regulators. In this regard, the Centre regularly organises academic conferences, panel discussions and lecture series which see involvement from students from several law colleges, practitioners from top-tier law firms, noted academics and former members of the Competition Commission of India.

In March 2018, the Centre organised a lecture on ‘Recent developments in Competition Law’, which was conducted by Ms. Nisha Kaur Uberoi (Equity partner and Competition head, Trilegal) and Ms. Shravani Shekhar (Senior Associate, Trilegal).

More recently, the Centre, in collaboration with the Centre for Banking and Finance, NLU Jodhpur, organised a panel discussion on the theme “Banking Sector at the Cross-roads of Disruption: Competition Law Perspective” on March 30, 2019.

The line-up of panelists include leading names in the industry such as Dr. Geeta Gouri (Former CCI Member & Regulatory Economist), Soumya Hariharan (Partner, Trilegal), Mr. Nalin Kumar (Senior Manager, ICICI Bank), Prof. Vijay Kumar Singh, HOD, UPES School of Law) among others.
